After Barcelona's European hopes were brought to an end at Anfield in midweek, Luis Suarez decided to go under the knife for an injury to the meniscus in his right knee.

Now, the Barcelona striker has stated that he hopes to be back in time for the Copa America, though he will miss the final two games of LaLiga Santander and the Copa del Rey final against Valencia.

"It will all be great, in a month I'll be ready," Suarez told El Pais de Montevideo, following on from estimates of four to six weeks for his absence.

"It's not the same injury as 2017; that was cartilage, and this is meniscus."

The competition takes place in Brazil, kicking off on June 14, and he will be an important player for the Uruguayan national team.

In his absence at Camp NouErnesto Valverde will be left with the choice of whether to risk Ousmane Dembele, who is also struggling with injury, deploy Lionel Messi as a false nine, or even give Kevin-Prince Boateng a starting role.
