Liverpool lost 3-0 to Barcelona on Wednesday's UEFA Champions League semi final first leg .

Lionel Messi brace and Luis Suarez ensured Ernesto Valverde side have the advantage going into the second leg.

The Reds Defender ,Virgil van Dijk has expressed joy of not having to face Messi every week in the league.

Van Dijk was voted the PFA player of the Year, following his record move from Southampton last season.

"When you come up against Messi and he produces his best form you can't do anything. I'm grateful that I'm not in Spain and I don't have to face him every season. He scored two goals and I leave very disappointed. He won the battle but not the war."

The defender points out it's only 'half time' in the contest and that at Anfield, anything could happen.
