Frauen-Bundesliga side, Vfl Wolfsburg, have confirmed the signing of Arsenal’s Dominique Bloodworth, bringing an end to a four-year spell at the North London club which was recently crowned Women’s Super League (WSL) champions ahead of Manchester City.

In a statement released by the German club on Friday evening, Wolfsburg expressed delight to be signing the 24-year-old Netherlands international in a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

“The VfL women’s team have made their sixth new signing for the coming season after completing a deal for [Dominique Bloodworth] from Arsenal Women’s FC. The 24-year-old defender joins the newly crowned double winners on a three-year contract,” the club said in the statement.

In Arsenal’s statement, the club said: “Dominique joined us from SGS Essen in July 2015 and has since made 99 appearances for the club. If she features against Manchester City on Saturday then she’ll have made a century of appearances.”

The statement added: “The versatile midfielder has scored 14 goals, and helped us to win the FA WSL Continental Cup in 2015 and 2018, the 2016 Women’s FA Cup, and the 2019 Women’s Super League title.”

Bloodworth joined the Gunners from SGS Essen in 2013 and claimed the FA WSL Cup in 2015 with a 3-0 win over Notts County as well as the FA Women’s Cup with a 1-0 win over Chelsea by the end of her first season in England in the summer of 2016.

The player also won the WSL Cup in 2018 before helping the Gunners end an eight-year wait to win the WSL title and return to the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Meanwhile, Bloodworth will be joined in leaving the club by Dutch compatriot, Sari van Veenendaal, with the veteran goalkeeper’s leaving North London following the expiration of her contract with the club.

In a statement by Arsenal, the club said: “Sari joined us in July 2015 from FC Twente and has since made 71 appearances in Arsenal colours. Our Dutch shot-stopper has won two Continental Cups, one Women’s FA Cup and one Women’s Super League title during her time at the club.”

The Gunners added: “She also made a crucial penalty save in this season’s Continental Cup quarter-final win over Birmingham City, in addition to keeping seven clean sheets over the course of the campaign.”

Arsenal went on to wish both players well: “Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Dominique and Sari for their contribution to the team’s success, in addition to their exceptional professionalism and commitment throughout. We wish them the very best with their future.”
