Napoli have officially purchased Roma defender Kostas Manolas for €34m plus a €2m signing-on fee, effectively activating his release clause.

The 28-year-old Greek international signed the paperwork this evening and will fly in for a medical next week, but the deal has been done and personal terms agreed.

Roma released a financial statement confirming the sale is worth €36m, the cost of his release clause.

It’s believed his five-year contract is worth €3.5m plus bonuses, taking it up to a total of €4.5m per season.

There is also a €2m signing-on fee, while Amadou Diawara will go to Roma soon for €18m plus €3m in add-ons.

Diawara is currently playing at the Africa Cup of Nations for Guinea, so his move won’t be completed until July.

The Manolas move had to be finalised today so that the Giallorossi could register his sale in the 2018-19 financial year.

Roma bought Manolas from Olympiacos in the summer of 2014 for €15m and he leaves after 206 competitive games for the club, in which he scored eight goals – most famously the decisive header to knock Barcelona out of the Champions League quarter-final last season.
