Jules Kounde has become the most expensive signing in Sevilla's history after joining from Bordeaux on a five-year deal for a fee of 25 million euros.
Monchi is clearly of the belief that the 20-year-old can reach another level, while Bordeaux have retained a percentage of a future sale.
Kounde becomes Sevilla's fifth arrival this summer, and he will shortly be joined by Marseille winger Lucas Ocampos.
The French centre-back has been on Monchi's agenda for a while and such were his performances in Ligue 1 last season that the Andalusians have not hesitated paying 25m euros, which surpasses the 21.5m euros they paid for previous record signing Luis Muriel, albeit with a significantly lower salary.
Clearly Monchi realised that Sevillaneeded reinforcements at the back and has thus spent 40m on two centre-backs, Kounde and Diego Carlos from Nantes.
