Andreas Christensen appears to have taken a swipe at new Arsenal signing David Luiz with a timely post on social media.

The 32-year-old swapped west for north London on transfer deadline day after he fell out with Frank Lampard and was asked to train away from Chelsea’s first team squad.

Luiz subsequently pushed for a move across the capital to Arsenal to be reunited with his former manager at PSG, Unai Emery, and was granted his wish with the Gunners securing an £8million transfer shortly before the deadline.

After he was dropped for last Saturday’s friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach, Luiz was worried about his position in the team but his response prompted Lampard to take action amid concerns he was becoming a disruptive influence.

Christensen is likely to be one of the main beneficiaries of Luiz’s sudden departure but still took to Facebook to post a pointed message which simply read ‘No player is bigger than the club’, before posting a picture of himself alongside his now former teammate.

Arsenal had been chasing defensive reinforcements all summer and their need for a new centre-half was exacerbated by Laurent Koscielny’s own acrimonious departure earlier this week.

With Rob Holding only just on the verge of making his return from a serious injury, William Saliba set to spend the upcoming season back on loan at Saint-Etienne and Shkodran Mustafi potentially on his way out in what remains of the European window, Emery was delighted to secure the signing of such an experienced player.

He said: ‘David has huge experience and I look forward to working with him again. He is a well known player and adds to our defensive strength.’
