Frank Lampard has confirmed that Chelsea full-back Emerson Palmieri is out of action until mid-October.

The Italian was forced off the pitch injured during Liverpool's 2-1 victory over the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard shared an update on Palmieri's prognosis in addition to information on other players coming back.

'Emerson now won’t be back until the other side of the international break [which is during mid-October', he told the club's website.

'It will be a few weeks because it is the reoccurrence of an injury so we have to be a bit careful with it.’

Emerson lasted just 15 minutes against the Reds and fellow defender Andreas Christensen went off after twisting his knee in the second half.

‘Christensen is not too severe. Hopefully he won’t be out for too long but I can’t give a timeframe,' Lampard added.

Chelsea are preparing to take on Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and two youngsters are back from injury and ready to feature in Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James.

Lampard is excited to see what James can offer and said: 'He is strong, has really good quality on the ball in terms of the delivery he can put in from the sides. He is good in the tackle as he is powerful boy.

'I was really impressed with him as a young player before he went to Wigan and also from how he responded to the Championship, so it up to him now to try to make an impact on the squad here.’
