Spanish papers have heaped praise on Sergio Ramos as the captain looks set to break Iker Casillas' record by winning his 168th cap for Spain.

Ramos will become La Roja's all-time leading appearance holder in their Euro 2020 qualifier against Norway, a record previously held by fellow legend Casillas.

The two have had similarly spectacular careers in the red of Spain, with both integral parts of the nations's dominant World Cup and double European Championship-winning period between 2008-2012.

Ahead of Ramos' milestone, papers in Spain hailed the decorated centre-back, with Marca and AS featuring him heavily on the front pages of today's editions.

Marca features Ramos with the headline 'A La Euro y La Historia' translating 'To the Euro (European Championships) and to history', referencing Ramos' milestone and Spain's bid for 2020 European Championships qualification.

A victory against Norway tonight would guarantee qualification for the finals next summer, after winning all six of their qualifiers so far.

The 33-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down once he has broken goalkeeper Casillas' previous record, with the centre-back looking set to captain Spain in Euro 2020 and beyond.

Ramos has also scored an impressive 21 goals for Spain, with his most recent coming in last month's 2-1 qualifying victory over Romania.
