Solskjaer: Martial is 'vital' to Man Utd

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer described Anthony Martial as 'vital' to Manchester United following his phenomenal impact in their 3-1 win at Norwich City.

Martial returned from an eight-week lay-off with a thigh injury as a substitute against Liverpool last week and made a goalscoring return to the line-up at Partizan Belgrade on Thursday.

"We've missed Anthony the last two months and it's great to have him back. Him and Marcus, they're just gonna improve and that partnership is gonna grow. Sometimes we play the two of them, today we had Dan James as well, so we had the three of them. So very happy and great finish by Anthony.

"He (Martial)'s vital for us. He's a top striker and to have him back, fit, smiling, enjoying his football is a big thing for us. He's clever in his movement but he's not been given credit for his clever defending.

"We feel Anthony's an important player for us and we've felt the effect of him not being there and pleased to have him back and scoring goals."

United claimed their first away win in 12 in Belgrade and the imperious defeat of Norwich marked their first Premier League triumph away from Old Trafford in exactly eight months.

Solskjaer takes his side to Chelsea in the League Cup fourth round on Wednesday before a lunchtime league kick-off at Bournemouth on Saturday. "Two in three days is not bad," Solskjaer added. "It's been, of course, too long but it's great to have it and this performance is a pleasing thing.

"It's a difficult place to come to, but when we're as concentrated and focused on the front foot as we were today we can beat anyone away from home."
