Unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, 34, defeated Luis Ortiz  as he defended his  10th WBC heavyweight title.


The rematch went down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday (Nov.23) as Wilder knocked down Ortiz in the seventh round.

 

During the bout, Wilder appeared to be heading to the first defeat of his professional career after Cuban professional boxer Ortiz won the first six rounds of the bout. According to reports gathered, the clash was settled in the 7th round as Wilder delivered a killer punch that sent his opponent to the ground. He has beaten Ortiz twice .

After the bout, the American champion said: "You can see why no other heavyweight wants to fight Ortiz. He's very crafty in the ring and he moves strategically. I had to play around with him and measure him in certain places. I had to go back and go forward. My intellect is very high although I don't get credit for it. I finally found my measurement and I took the shot and I hurt him."

On his defeat, Ortiz said: "This is boxing. I told everybody that it would either be him or me and it wasn't going to go 12 rounds. I was trying to get up by [the referee's] count was a little bit quicker than I thought."

Deontay Wilder becomes the sixth heavyweight champion to make at least 10 title defenses. 


It has been learnt that Wilder will now focus on his rematch with British heavyweight, Tyson Fury.

 

"Next, of course, we have the rematch with Tyson Fury. The schedule is set to be done in February so we will see how that goes. After that, I'm looking for a unification bout. I want one champion, one face and one name and he go by the name of Deontay Wilder.

"They have to be perfect for 12 rounds, I only have to be perfect for two seconds"
