The Premier League have explained why Manchester City were not awarded a penalty following Trent Alexander-Arnold's handball in the build up to Fabinho's opening goal at Anfield.

Referee Michael Oliver waved away the claims and Liverpool hit City on the counter-attack, Fabinho opening the scoring with a long range drive. Oliver gestured to his ears that a VAR check was underway but the goal was awarded.

The Premier League confirmed: "The VAR checked the penalty appeal for handball against Trent Alexander-Arnold and confirmed the on-field decision that it did not meet the considerations for a deliberate handball."
