Guardiola confirms Aguero will miss Manchester Derby due to injury

Guardiola has admitted Aguero will be missing for weeks as Manchester City approach the Christmas period.

Aguero picked up a thigh issue during Saturday's victory over Chelsea and becomes another on Guardiola's lengthy list of injury problems.

It leaves City with just one fit striker, Gabriel Jesus, heading into Tuesday's Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Guardiola also confirmed that Aguero will be absent for the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium on December 7.

'We will miss Sergio, but we're going to wait for him and in Gabriel we have a star in that position,' Guardiola said.

'I'm not happy that Aguero is injured. Of course, I'm ready to play,' Jesus said. 'When I came to City I knew it would be hard because they had Sergio.

'I have a chance to play with Pep and top players at a big club, that's why I came.'

Guardiola has consistently apologised to the likes of Jesus for not rotating his squad enough but praised the Brazil international for the way he has handled his situation.

'It's not easy for Gabriel, there's no other striker at this level who can be so humble and accept the situation,' the City manager added. 'It's important in how you train and he never misses a training session. When he says he wants to work and learn that is the truth.

'He's an incredible guy, he and Sergio respect each other. Sergio plays more minutes but not much more, I try and involve both. Sometimes we need both on the pitch.'
