Jose Mourinho insists he has learned from his troubled spell at Manchester United and has vowed to learn from his mistakes after his 11-month break from football.
The new Tottenham boss, who described himself as humble, said his DNA remains the same but he will change some of his ways in order to get the best out of his players.
Mourinho fell out with key personnel at Manchester United – including star man Paul Pogba – and was sacked in December 2018 after losing the support of his players and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
When asked if he has learned from his Manchester United spell, Mourinho said: 'I think so. These last 11 months have been used to think and to prepare. You never lose your DNA.
'You are what you are – for the good things and the bad things. I know in my career that I've made mistakes.
'I am humble. I am humble enough to try to analyse my career. Not just the last year but the problems and the solutions. The principle of my analysis was not to blame anyone else.
'I was always humble. The problem was that you didn’t understand that. I was always humble but it was in my way.'
He was then asked if he had his 'mojo back' to which Mourinho jokingly replied: 'I have to go to Google translate to know what "mojo" is.'
He went on to say: 'When I don't win I'm not happy. I cannot change that.
'If you are happy by losing football matches, it's difficult to be a winner in any moment of your career.
'But the emotional control to keep the self-esteem and confidence and in those around you is very important.'
Mourinho, who has been heavily back in the transfer market at the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United, insists he is happy with his current squad.
He explained: 'The best gift are the players who are here. I don't need new players. I just need to get to know these ones better.
'I know them well but you never know them well enough until you meet them.
'I told the players I came here because of them. I tried to buy some for different clubs and some I didn't even try because you know how difficult it was.'
The Tottenham manager hinted he is about to raid the club shop for pyjamas as he wants to nail his colours to his new side's mast.
He added: 'I think I am Mr Porto and Mr Real Madrid and other clubs as well, I am whatever club I am at. I wear the pyjamas of the club and sleep in them. I am a club man, but I am a many club man.'
Mourinho addressed the world's media for the first time after putting pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year deal at Tottenham.
Mourinho opened up his press conference by congratulating Mauricio Pochettino on what he had accomplished at the club.
Mourinho said of his predecessor Pochettino: 'I do it with a bit of sadness but I have to speak about Mauricio. I have to congratulate him for the work he has done.
'This club will always be his home. This training ground will always be his training ground. The door will always be open for him.
'He (Pochettino) will find happiness again. He will find another club again.'
He said his Tottenham side will play in a similar style to Pochettino's Spurs.
'Very similar to before. Of course I will try to add details, and sometimes details can make the difference.
'Progressively we can arrive to a fingerprint. The style of play must be adaptive to the club culture and also the players here.'
When asked if Tottenham, who are 14th in the Premier League, had been affected by their Champions League final defeat by Liverpool - Mourinho said: 'I don't know because I never lost a Champions League final.'
Mourinho said Tottenham's low league positions means they can't challenge the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for the title.
'We cannot win the Premier League this season, we can — I'm not saying we will — next season.'
Mourinho said he would never manage Tottenham during his time at Chelsea but he dismissed his broken vow by stating: 'Yes, that was before I was sacked!
'I hope there is not a bigger [Spurs] fan than myself. Chelsea is past - just past. Two periods of titles but that is past. No one will want to win more than me.'
Mourinho was unveiled as Tottenham manager on Wednesday morning just hours after Pochettino was sacked by Daniel Levy.
The Portuguese tactician signed a contract until the end of the 2022-23 campaign which is worth £15million per season.
He is once again the second highest paid manager in world football with only long-time rival Pep Guardiola (£20m a season) earning more than him.
Brendan Rodgers was Levy's first choice to replace Pochettino but Leicester rebuffed the Tottenham chief's approach.
A deal for Mourinho was negotiated by Pini Zahavi, who first brought the Portuguese to England in 2004, rather than his regular agent Jorge Mendes.
Mourinho got to work straightaway ahead of their visit to West Ham with the 56-year-old taking charge of training alongside his new coaches.
Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Danny Rose were among the players Mourinho had one-on-one conversations with during the session.
He has decided to add two new faces to his coaching set-up with assistant manager Joao Sacramento and goalkeeper coach Nuno Santos arriving from Lille.
Fitness coach Carlos Lalin, scout Ricardo Formosinho and analyst Giovanni Cerra, who all worked under Mourinho at Manchester United, make up the coaching staff.
It means there was no reunion for Mourinho with long-time assistants Rui Faria and Silvino Louro.
Mourinho had been out of work since his sacking by Manchester United in December 2018.
Tottenham will become the third Premier League side he has managed, after Chelsea and United, when he returns to the dugout at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Mourinho arrived at Tottenham with three Premier League titles to his name having been crowned champion at Chelsea in 2005, 2006 and 2015,
