That ex Minister of Information Chief Alex Akinyele passed on last night is no more news but what is news is that, his popular home in Lagos well known as ‘Azania Castle’ has also gone with him.

For those who don’t know, the Late Chief Alex Akinyele lived at Magodo GRA for years in the 1990s and even at the turn of the millennium. Azania Castle as his home was called, was a self-styled mansion, a home where the late Chief was pleased with and he used to love to host his top society friends there.

It was also a home to his cherished wife Lady Yvonne a South African who Chief Akinyele loved dearly. Azania is a word that means a lot to the average South African. It stood for freedom and the late Chief Chief Alex Akinyele must have perceived his residence to be a Liberation place! And perhaps that was also why he named the place Azania Castle in honour of his lovely wife. The Chief was known for his love of colour white. And white was the colour of his home.

The ex Minister of Information Minster, Chief Alex Akinyele, and his South African-born wife, Lady Yvonne, were inseparable. They were popular socialites who livened up most top events in Lagos before her death. Many say that the death of his lovely wife succeeded in changing him. All over Akinyele's Azania Castle, were pictures of Lady Yvonne.

Azania Castle was also home to Chief Alex Akinyele’s second wife Lady Maria, who married him after his 30 year marriage to Yvonne. He called Lady Maria, ‘Ella’ but the marriage went into trouble waters when his memory of Yvonne interfered regularly in the marriage.

Eventually, Chief Alex Akinyele according to our source had to relocate out of Azania Castle at GRA Magodo and today we can assure you that Azania Castle has been levelled to the ground. But what our source could not confirm, is if the land still belongs to the late Chief or his family.
