Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has issued a major update on star midfielder Fabinho amid his side's Premier League title battle with Manchester City .

Klopp 's men are eight points clear at the top of the Premier League and nine ahead of Pep Guardiola's team.

One of the players key to Liverpool 's success this term has been Fabinho, who suffered an ankle injury in the 1-1 draw against Napoli on Wednesday.

Fabinho was the man who opened the scoring with a thunderous strike in Liverpool's 3-1 win over City earlier this month but Klopp could be without one of his top players for a period of time.

Klopp was unwilling to specify how long the Brazilian will be out of action when he spoke in the aftermath of his side's Champions League clash but he did seem worried at the prospect of how long Fabinho could potentially be out.

"The biggest thing is the Fabinho injury, that's massive," Klopp said after the match.

"It's early and we all hope it's not too serious but it's pretty painful and in an area you don't want to have pain (around the ankle).

"I don't want to say what I expect, because I hope it is not serious. He has pain, which is not good. He couldn't continue and he is a really hard one."
