The post, uploaded to Gullit's official Twitter account, generated a widespread positive reaction from adoring supporters, and the 57-year-old accompanied it with the caption: 'Throwback Thursday! Looking sharp in speedos!'.
All three legends eventually chanced their arm at management following their retirements, enduring contrasting fortunes in the hot seat.
But during their playing days, the trio had experienced success on both domestic and international levels - particularly during their time in the Italian top flight with Milan.
Despite arriving in northern Italy with a poor grasp of the native language in 1987, Gullit helped the club clinch their first Scudetto in nine years during his first campaign following the switch from PSV.
Milan then clinched back-to-back European Cup titles, with the triumvirate of Gullit, van Basten and Rijkaard playing a crucial role in the success. The three stars also proved pivotal in Holland's 1988 European Championship victory - with Gullit and van Basten both netting in the final.
Gullit's last managerial role came with Russian outfit Terek Grozny in 2011, with the Dutchman sacked following just three wins from 13 games in charge. The club also alluded to his 'party lifestyle'.
His former teammate Rijkaard announced in 2016 that he would no longer pursue a position in the dugout, despite unprecedented success in charge of Barcelona.
Van Basten had been surprisingly handed the reins of the Dutch national team in 2004 despite a lack of experience. He now works for FIFA as a technical director.
