Arteta Is currently negotiating with Arsenal - Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Mikel Arteta is speaking to Arsenal about taking over as manager - but insists he will be part of the Manchester City coaching staff for their Carabao Cup game at Oxford United on Wednesday.

The former Arsenal captain is the overwhelming bookies' favourite to replace Unai Emery at the Emirates, and has held three interviews with the club about taking over.

Until now, Guardiola and Manchester City had stayed quiet over the coach's future, but the Spaniard has now addressed the media at his press conference.

When asked about Arteta, he said: 'Mikel is travelling to Oxford with us tomorrow.

'We were so smart to pick him up and the other clubs missed it. He's an incredible person, good manager. Work ethic.

'That's why he is what he is. He's talking with Arsenal so I don't know.'

Manchester City beat Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League, and attention has now turned to Oxford in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
