Buhari hails Joshua's victory, says Nigerians are proud of him

Anthony Joshua Defeats Andy Ruiz Jr
Anthony Joshua on Saturday, December 12, 2019, redeemed himself by defeating Andy Ruiz. Jr in the boxing heavyweight match in Saudi Arabia.

The British-Nigerian started the bout with high energy as he gave his opponent a bloody cut in the first round. From then on Anthony Joshua was dominant enough to be declared the winner.

Joshua has now taken back the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles which he lost to Ruiz on June 1, 2019, at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Telegraph described Ruiz’s victory earlier in the year as “one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.”

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has sent his own congratulatory messages to Anthony Joshua.

Taking to his Twitter time line, he said:


The downfall of a man is truly not the end of his life. There’s always another, and better day. This is a lesson we must all learn from Anthony Joshua, as a country.


He added in another tweet:
I salute World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Anthony Joshua, on his Saturday night comeback victory over Andy Ruiz Jnr. You have brought joy and celebration to millions of Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora; we are and will continue to be immensely proud of you.
