Ikechukwu Ezenwa Relegated To Bench Role At Heartland After Opening Day Error

The goalkeeper of the senior national team of Nigeria Ikechukwu Ezenwa has lost his spot as the first choice goalkeeper of Nigeria Professional Football League ( NPFL) side Heartland FC of Owerri.

Ezenwa started the season as first choice goalkeeper but a horrendous blunder against MFM FC in their first league game where he inexplicably palmed a harmless effort into his own net for the lone goal of the game appears to have cost him his spot.

Godwin Amen was immediately drafted in as first choice but his reign didn’t last long before veteran shot stopper Chijioke Ejiogu popularly called Arugo Monkey seized the number one spot for the last three games of the club in the league.

Ejiogu has kept goal in their last three games although information from the camp of the team has it that Ezenwa was supposed to be in goal against Plateau United but fell ill.

That piece of information is however not entirely true as a player in the team confirmed to Owngoalnigeria.com that he has been training with the team for two weeks now but hasn’t been selected for games by coach Fidelis Ilechukwu.

His lack of game time will no doubt raise debate about his position in the Super Eagles where he is presently third choice goalkeeper of the team behind the duo of Francis Uzoho and Daniel Akpeyi who are first and second choice goalkeeper respectively.
