It might be Christmas Day but the Boxing Day meeting with Newcastle is top of the agenda for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his Manchester United players.

The Reds have failed to win either of their last two games, drawing with Everton and losing at Watford, and failure to win on Thursday will put another dent in their top-four challenge.

United's players were called into training by Solskjaer on Christmas Day and third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant arrived at Carrington looking particularly festive with a full Santa outfit on.

Paul Pogba also reported for duty as he prepares to potentially make his first start for United in almost three months. The France midfielder impressed off the bench at Vicarage Road but could do nothing to prevent United from falling to defeat against the division's bottom side.

"He can play anywhere," Solskjaer said of Pogba after the loss to Watford. "He can play the whole midfield. He's a box-to-box midfielder. He can drop deep, get it, play them long passes. He can get higher up and combine like he did today, one-twos. Him and Anthony and Marcus started created chances down that side.

"So, it depends on the [game]. That's the beauty of having Paul, because he is the best all-around midfielder in the world. He can do all roles but if I am play him low, he should have played high. And if you play him high, you should have played low.

"There's always going to be that discussion with him but it's great to have him back."
