The former governor of Abia State, Senator representing Abia North in the Senate, and Chip Whip of the 9th Senate Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu was recently convicted and sentenced to jail for money laundering to the tune of 7.56 billion naira.
He was sentenced to jail by Justice Mohammed Idris of the federal high court along side his former director of finance Mr. Jones Ude.
The crime was committed during his tenure as Abia State Governor between 1999 and 2007. But Kalu is known for business. He was a successful businessman before joining politics.
At 27, he became the Chairman of Cooperative and Commerce Bank.
Had he listened to the advice of his father who was highly against him joining politics but to face his business, he may not be in this mess.
But the Igbere born politician enjoys a lot of luxury which many Nigerians don’t know because of his humble nature. From his 400 room mansion, to his houses in the US, UK to his private jets.
