Fiorentina have sacked Vincenzo Montella after last night’s 4-1 home defeat to Roma, but will wait before appointing a replacement.

The decision was somewhat inevitable, as since returning to the Stadio Franchi on April 10, Montella has lost 13 of his total 24 Serie A games in charge.
He amassed only 19 points out of an available 72, including one point in the last six rounds, earned with a stoppage-time equaliser against Inter last week.
Montella was brought back by the Della Valle brothers and confirmed in his job when President Rocco Commisso bought the club over the summer.
The first choice to come in would be Luciano Spalletti, a lifelong Fiorentina fan, but he is still under contract with Inter and needs to terminate that deal before he can sign a new one.
Other alternatives include Beppe Iachini, former Italy Under-21 coach Gigi Di Biagio and Cesare Prandelli.
