This is a list of the top ten most ugliest players of African descent, the list is not ranked and exhaustive.
This is not to discriminate any player or mock anyone. The term 'Ugly' is vague, we are all beautiful.
10. Sulley Ali Muntari
Strong, aggressive and deadly with his trademark shots, Sulley Muntari is the generalissimo of Ghana’s midfield. The former Portsmouth and AC Milan player ranks high on list of Africa ugliest players. Although he has been in the eye of the storm recently over racial attack in Italian league, Muntari currently plies his trade with Pescara FC.
9. Manuel Cange
To most football enthusiasts, 32-year-old Manuel Armindo Morais Cange, popularly known as Loco, would have fared well as a clown. His appearance at every match venue is usually greeted with curiosity especially by people seeing for the first time. In fact, a rival fan once teased that the Angolan looks like something from a horror film if the hair attachments resting on his forehead is anything to go by. Cange plays for Petro Athletico FC.
8. Rigobert Song
Until his demise, whenever the indomitable lion – Rigobert Song – turned up for any match, he often looked like a character from one of those ‘Shinfu’ from a Shaolin Temple flick. His eerie look was enough to make any attacker want to avoid him long before his tackles came flying. He would be sorely missed by both his Cameroonian compatriots and the soccer world.
7. Gervinho
Former Arsenal player, Gervais Lombe Yao Kouassi, otherwise known as Gervinho is Cote D’ivoire national team striker who currently plays for Hebei China Fortune. With his hair attachment and head band, he looks like any other fame-crazed soccer stars. Take these away and you will be shocked by his true look. Head band sure hides a whole lot of craps these days.
6. Taribo West
Now a pastor, Taribo West caught the eyes of the world playing for Inter Milan and the Nigerian national team with a colourful dreads of blue-black-white and green-white-green respectively. He was a rock of Gibraltar and a nightmare for so many world class strikers.
5. Mustapha Riga
The former Bolton Wanderers and Levante player is another Ghanaian star who has since fizzled out from the soccer scene. According to reports, the 35-year-old presently manages a second tier-club BA United. Riga’s name recently popped up some months ago following his arrest over alleged assault at a radio station in Ghana.
4. Hameur Bouazza
Ex Fulham, Watford, Milwall and currently Red Star FC winger, Hameur Bouazza is an Algerian professional footballer. Soccer buffs have repeatedly teased that the 32-year-old midfielder’s face scares the living daylight out of opposing players than his attacking prowess.
3. Taye Taiwo
Tall, sturdy and ugly, Taye Taiwo’s look stands him out of any 25-man team. However when you consider that his swashbuckling style of play has earned him accolades at the Under-20 world cup, Super Eagles and club levels, you would understand why Marseille was willingly to break the bank for him about a decade ago.
2. Dominic Adiyiah
If clubs were to consider mien as first criterion before signing players, I am not sure Dominic Adiyiah would have come this far as player. However the industrious and blockbusting approach of the former 2009 Under-20 World Cup with Ghana Satellites attracted big clubs like AC Milan. He once outshone the likes of Dede Ayew, heir to the great Abedi Pele before fizzling out into oblivion.
1. Aristide Bance:
Controversial Afro spiky-hairstyled striker and Bukina Faso forward, Aristide Bance, is like a cult hero in the country. He is loved for his 100 per cent commitment to the national team. The 32-year-old who plies his trade with Egyptian Al-Masry FC occupies our #1 position on the list of Africa all-time ugliest footballers. like it or not, he is also the toast of many ladies.
