Fernandes is on the brink of joining Manchester United in a £67.8million transfer - with the Portugal international in Manchester and undergoing a medical on Thursday.
It's been a whirlwind 24 hours for the 25-year-old who was in Portugal on Wednesday finalising his exit from Sporting.
And part of that included filming a goodbye message to fans of the Portuguese giants following his two-and-a-half year spell there.
It was clearly an emotional occasion for Fernandes as he broke down in tears during his goodbye interview on Sporting TV.
'There were important moments that made a mark on my career. I went through many positive things and many negative things,' he said.
'I want people to remember me for the positives and I will always remember Sporting for the positives.
'The fans, the people who worked with me, the players, everything.
Me and my family were always well-received, we had lots of kindness from everyone, nothing was ever missing.
'For the two-and-a-half years I was here, I can only thank them for everything.
'I hope that you stay with good memories of me and I will always take you in my heart.'
Fernandes jumped on a flight to Manchester on Wednesday as soon as United and Sporting had put the final touches to the transfer that will cost the Premier League club an initial £46.6m plus up to £21.2m in add-ons. He spent Wednesday night at The Lowry Hotel after landing in England.
It's understood that the add-ons include a £4.2m payment to Sporting if United qualify for the Champions League, another £4.2m based on Fernandes' appearances for the club and a separate £12.6m if individual targets are met.
