Ambode ignored as Lagos names new LAGFERRY boats after past Governors

Former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s name was conspicuously absent as new ferries acquired by the Lagos state Government were named after former Governors and some other notable names in the state..


Eyewitness accounts say that eight new ferries which were added to the existing fleet of the Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) where named after former Governors Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Babatunde Raji Fashola, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, and other symbolic names such as Alausa, and Akran.

Meanwhile, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday inaugurated the eight additional Ferries to an existing six Ferries, making fourteen Ferries available for commercial activities on the waterways in seven routes across three Senatorial Districts of the state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also launched a Mobile App for easy booking of tickets as part of his administration's Integrated Multi-Modal system of Transportation to ease traffic on Lagos roads.

He said the new ferries are part of a move to change the narrative of water travel in the state as they were built with different capacities so that passengers can be systematically commuted according to different traffic demands.



The Governor, who promised that dredging and provision of navigational aids would be stepped up on the waterways, announced that LAGFERRY capacity will be increased from fourteen to thirty boats before the end of the year.



In his remarks, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Lagos State Ferry Services, Mr. Ladi Balogun said the agency is committed to delivering on its mandate of effective and real time service delivery driven by technology and competent professionals to residents and businesses, urging all potential investors to partner with LAGFERRY.

The fourteen Ferries will begin full commercial operations in three Senatorial Districts on six routes which include Ipakodo Terminal, Ikorodu, Five Cowries Terminal, Falomo Ikoyi, Ikorodu-Ebutte-Ero Jetty, Elegbata-Lagos Island, Marina Terminal, CMS and Five Cowries Terminal, Falomo-Ikoyi, Badore Terminal, and Ajah.



Reports say that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also assured that new jetties are underway in Badagry and Victoria Island as well as planned completion of existing jetties in Ijegun and other parts of Lagos.
