Bayern confirm Lewandowski has been ruled out for four weeks after suffering a knee injury against Chelsea on Tuesday.

Lewandowski partially fractured the tibial edge in his left knee joint during the 3-0 Champions League win over Chelsea on Tuesday night, and will likely miss the return leg as a result.

However, Bayern will be confident of finishing the job off next month to book their spot in the Champions League quarter-final, with a 3-0 advantage.

The Poland international will also miss the DFB-Pokal quarter-final with Schalke, as well as a number of Bundesliga games.

He could return after the next international break, with Bayern set to face Borussia Dortmund in a potential title shoot-out on April 4.

Bayern lead RB Leipzig by one point at the top of the table, with Dortmund three points further back.

Bayern's statement
Robert Lewandowski suffered a fracture of the shin edge at the left knee joint in Bayern's 3-0 win at Chelsea yesterday.

This was the result of an in-depth examination by Bavaria doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt after returning from London this Wednesday.

After ten days of plaster immobilization, the build-up training begins. The total downtime will be around four weeks.
