Ajax have reportedly cancelled the contract of Abdelhak Nouri, just days after he woke up from his coma.
Recall that the 22-year-old sustained severe and permanent brain damage after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia attack in a pre-season friendly with German outfit Werder Bremen in July 2017.
However, according to De Telegraaf, Nouri’s contract is up for renewal on July 1 and Ajax must reportedly notify the player’s family should they decide to terminate the automatic extension.
It was learnt that Nouri’s current deal has a pre-agreed 12-month extension that the Dutch giants do not want to take up and instead would prefer to come to a settlement with the family.
It's been reported by Journalist Valentijn Driessen claimed last week that a compensation fee has not been agreed between the two parties while it is being reported that Ajax are considering an offer of £4.5million, according to The Sun.
The player woke up from his coma last week, Nouri is now recovering in a house built especially for him.
Nouri’s brother Abderrahim said the pair communicate through raising their eyebrows but the promising midfielder also physically reacts when watching football on television.
Nouri, born in Amsterdam to parents of Moroccan descent, made 15 appearances for Ajax in his debut 2016-17 season.
