Arteta has been in charge of the gunners for two months and has seen the North London club revive hopes of a top four finish.
But the Spanish national has vowed to come back stronger
“This is really disappointing but I took the test after feeling poorly,” Arteta said.
“I will be at work as soon as I’m allowed.”
Arsenal have promised to give Arteta full support until he recovers.
“Mikel and the full first-team squad, players and staff, will be fully supported, and we look forward to getting back to training and playing as soon as medical advice allows,” said Arsenal Head of football Raul Sanllehi.
“Obviously Mikel’s full recovery is the priority now for us all.”
Pressure is now mounting on the English football authorities to either suspend matches or outrightly cancel the entire season.
