England international Eric Dier was pictured in an angry confrontation with a supporter after Tottenham lost on penalties to Norwich in the FA Cup on Wednesday night. Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier sensationally climbed into the crowd to confront home supporters as ugly scenes broke out moments after the club's FA Cup exit on Wednesday night.

Spurs were sent crashing out the cup by Norwich in a tense penalty shootout but it was Dier's moment of madness after the match that was the talking point in north London.

An angry Dier was seen climbing over the advertising board and into the stand where the home Tottenham fans were sat after seemingly taking offence to what was been shouted at the beaten Spurs players.

The England midfielder then appeared to confront a fan and had to be held back by stewards and stunned onlookers before he was heard shouting: "That's my brother".

Video footage also appeared to show the fuming Spurs star forcing his way towards the fan in question, while another supporter was heard shouting": "Oh my god Dier, what the f*** are you doing Dier".

It remains unclear what riled Dier, although it is believed he was stepping in to defend his brother and manager Jose Mourinho appeared to confirm that after the match.

Although Mourinho defended Dier, the manager also said the midfielder "did something we professionals cannot do".

Mourinho said in his post match press conference: "I think Eric Dier did something we professionals cannot do but he did something that we would all do.

"I think Eric did what we as professionals cannot do but when someone insults you and your family is involved, especially your younger brother.

"This person insulted Eric, the younger brother was not happy with the situation and Eric was not happy. But we as professionals cannot do what he did."

On the prospect of the club taking action against Dier, Mourinho said: "If the club does that I will not agree, but he did wrong."

Indeed, Tottenham's season plunged into further despair after they were knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties to Norwich.

With their Premier League top four hopes in trouble and Champions League chances looking grim, Spurs' last realistic opportunity of silverware is over after they were beaten 3-2 in the shootout in north London.

Tim Krul saved from Troy Parrott and Gedson Fernandes, with Erik Lamela also missing for Tottenham.

For Norwich, it is a first FA Cup quarter final since 1992 and they will now face Derby or Manchester United in a welcome distraction from their relegation fight.
