Sporting Lisbon have told Jese Rodriguez he is not in their future plans after a failed loan spell

Jese Rodruguez's stalling career has taken another nose dive as Sporting Lisbon plan to send him back to Paris Saint-Germain following a disappointing loan spell in Portugal.

Sporting Lisbon have told Jese Rodriguez he is not in their future plans after a failed loan spell

Rodriguez has fallen into relative obscurity since leaving Real Madrid for PSG in 2016 and a number of below-par loan spells have done little to galvanise his career.

After just 17 appearances in all competitions for Sporting Lisbon - who he joined on the final day of last summer's transfer window - Rodriguez is no longer in the club's plans and he will return to Paris to decide what happens next.

His agent, Gines Carvajal, told Radio Renascenca: 'They (Sporting) told me Jese could continue to train with the group but wanted to let me know that he is not in their plans (for next season).'

In his entire loan spell at the club, the Spanish attacker scored just one goal.

While this is not the first loan spell for Rodriguez that has fallen well short of expectations on his arrival, Carvajal feels particularly aggrieved that the player was not given a fair chance to shine in Portugal.

'Jesé didn't have continuity,' he added. 'He did not play two, three games in a row and, I believe, that is the only way to see the quality of a player.

'He has extraordinary characteristics. He played for Real Madrid, for PSG and, at a certain moment, Jese was the ambition for any club of Europe.

'At Sporting, he did not deliver what was expected, but that was because he was not given four, five, six games to start to acquire form and rhythm. That was the problem.'

Since leaving the Santiago Bernabeu in 2016 for £20million, Rodriguez has seen his stock plummet dramatically.
