Juventus star Juan Cuadrado has apologised after he compared Adrien Rabiot to a former player who died 25 years ago.

Juventus star Juan Cuadrado has issued an apology after he made a joke on a club Instagram post paying tribute to Andrea Fortunato.

The former Bianconeri player died for from leukaemia in April 1995 at just 23 years old.

The Italian club remembered the player on the 25th anniversary of his death.

But Cuadrado commented on the post seemingly likening current team-mate Adrian Rabiot to Fortunato.

"Rabiot, it’s you," he said before backing tracking and apologising.

He said on his own Instagram: "I take this opportunity to apologise to all the Juventus fans for the post I commented on.

“I only saw the photo without reading what had happened: I just looked and I thought I saw Rabiot. Sorry".

Fortunato was signed by Juventus in 1993 while the legendary Giovanni Trapattoni was in charge.

His performances had him in contention for Italy's 1994 World Cup squad but he eventually missed out.

Fortunato was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia later that year and, despite responding well to treatment, died the following year.
