The couple, who are parents to children Luna, four, and Miles, 23-months, exchanged vows in a romantic wedding ceremony on the banks of Lake Como six years after their first meeting.
And speaking to Jessie and Lennie Ware's Table Manners podcast, Legend, 41, admits it was love at first sight after photographer Nabil Elderkin cast her to appear in a promotional video for album track Stereo.
He recalled: 'It wasn't a single but he just liked the song and wanted to make a video on spec which meant he was going to pay for it but he wanted to use it as his calling card as a video director, saying "Hey I can do this look what I did with John Legend."
'So he said "I'd love to make this video on spec for this song I really like and erm, I have this girl that I know and I've worked with before that I think you would really like and I want to cast her in the video."
'And he showed me pictures of her and he was like I think you will like her too. So he cast her and we hit it off that day and we've basically been together ever since.'
He added: 'We were living on separate coasts at the time, she was living in Los Angeles and I was in New York and eventually we started living together on both coasts and fell in love and you know the rest is history,' he explained.
'The cool part about that is that Nabil is still both of our friends and he shot the video for All Of Me seven years after we met and we got married seven years after we met at Lake Como and he shot the video there. It's a full circle moment.'
The musician and his family are currently adjusting to another week of enforced lockdown in the fight against coronavirus COVID-19.
