Shelvey says that he has been so impressed with the Frenchman’s impact with Steve Bruce side.
“He gets fined every day, because he’s got earphones in and stuff like that,” Shelvey said.
Saint-Maximin made his Ligue 1 debut for Saint-Étienne on 1 September 2013.
On 31 July 2015, Saint-Maximin joined Monaco,but was immediately loaned to German club Hannover 96. On 28 July 2016, Saint-Maximin joined Bastia on a season-long loan deal.
Saint-Maximin completed a move to rival club Nice for an undisclosed transfer fee, on 7 August 2017.
Former Liverpool midfielder continues: “He’s one of them if he wasn’t that good then you’d have the hump with him, but because he’s that good you don’t want to have a go at him.
“He’s been outstanding for me you get your head up and I’m just thinking ‘get the ball to him and let him dribble round 20 players’.
“He’s so quick and raw. He’s improved a lot defensively and that’s just going to make him even better. I can’t speak highly enough of him, honestly.”
On 2 August 2019, Saint-Maximin joined Premier League side Newcastle United on a six-year contract.
