Sancho, Hummels and Witsel expected to be fit for Bayern Munich clash - Dortmund coach, Favre

Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre said he expected key trio Jadon Sancho, Mats Hummels and Axel Witsel to be involved in their potential Bundesliga title decider at home to Bayern Munich tomorrow.

Sancho has been restricted to two substitute appearances since the resumption of Dortmund's fixtures following the suspension of football in Germany, faring better than Belgium midfielder Witsel, who missed the wins over Schalke and Wolfsburg with a muscular problem.

Defender Hummels compounded Favre's concerns by leaving halfway through the 2-0 win at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday with an Achilles issue, but the manager says he is '99 per cent' sure he will play in what could be the most unusual Klassiker of all time.

'I think Mats Hummels will be okay to play,' explained Favre, who will draw on the centre-back's experience in an attempt to ensure Dortmund do not concede while chasing the win they need to narrow the four-point gap on the league leaders.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Favre added: 'With Mats, we have to look at the short term, but I think he'll be okay. Axel trained with the team again yesterday and could be in the squad.

'Jadon was lacking training. He has now been training with the squad for 10 days. He played 20 minutes against Schalke and a little more against Wolfsburg. He did well.

'He is getting there slowly. He did well in training and slowly but steadily gets back to his old level. He is getting there, I don't see a problem - we'll see.'

Favre feels his side are better placed than they were before their capitulation in the first showdown of the season between the two titans. 'We have a different formation that fits our squad better,' he argued.

'We also have Emre Can and Erling Haaland - two strong players who've increased the quality of our team.'

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc expects the likes of Sancho and Witsel to have an impact. 'We have to stay strong during periods where Bayern are in control,' he warned. 'But we also have to be aware of our offensive quality.

'We can always score goals and we can always attack them. It will depend on the mentality that we've brought to the field the last couple of games. If we want to continue to play for the championship, we need to win the match.'
