When you talk about set piece takers that donned the shirt of Manchester United, then names such as David Beckham and Ryan Giggs will come to your mind.

The two Manchester United Stas were legends and cult heros at Old Trafford following their contributions to the success of the club during their days in active football.

Ryan Giggs has opened up on the incident which happened when himself and David Beckham took a free kick at the same time. Both ex Manchester United stars were standing over a free-kick against Aston Villa in August 2001.

It was at Villa Park, and both Giggs and Beckham stood in front of the ball and it was expected to either fake while the other take the shot. But both players struck the ball at exactly the same time.

Speaking to Manchester United's official club podcast, he said: 'I honestly do not know what happened.I can’t remember if we both said “you have it”, which was highly unlikely if it was Becks or if I just thought I’m gonna have it, I honestly don’t know.

'It was an unbelievable strike, it was going top corner. It would have been my goal for a start because I’m older. I would have claimed it most definitely. "

It took the experience of former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel to save the effort which was goal bound.

Many people claims that the set piece was planned, but Giggs said he had no idea how it happened.

He added that if the ball had gone into the net, he would have gone ahead to celebrate the goal.

He said: 'We would have both gone off celebrating, Becks would 100 per cent. We just laughed at the end of it but it was weird and I haven’t got an explanation for it, Becks might have.

'I can’t remember if one of us said we’ll run over it, I honestly do not know. It was an accident.'
Although, Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United drew the match 1-1 after Alpay Ozalan scored a 90th minute own goal to cancel out Darius Vassell's opener.
