"We miss you coachie" - NFF pays tribute to Shuaibu Amodu 4 years after his death

"Legends lives on" This could be said about late former Nigerian coach Shuaibu Amodu. 

The name of the former Super Eagles coach is a popular figure in the memories of many Nigerians even after his death 2016.

It's been four years ago since Amodu passed away, as he reportedly died on June 10th 2016.

SHUAIBU AMODU THE FOOTBALLER 
Many do not know that Amodu also played the game of football. Although he had a short football career due injury. 

Amodu was a striker who played majorly in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, for Dumez (1976–1978) and Niger Tornadoes (1978–1981). It was gathered that his playing career came to an end after he broke his leg and had to quit the game. He never got s chance to play for the national team of Nigeria. 

SHUAIBU AMODU THE MANAGER 
Shuaibu made his name on the touch lines after he manager several Nigerian club sides. He once managed NPFL clubs such as BCC Lions, El-Kanemi Warriors, and Shooting Stars. Also South African club, Orlando Pirates was the only club he managed outside Nigeria.

It was gathered that he first managed the Nigerian national team in April 2001. A year after, he was sacked in February 2002.

Amodu was re-appointed manager in April 2008 and thr Nigerian football Federation decided to let him go after a year on the job. 

In 2014, he came back for the third time to replace late Stephen Keshi on temporarily but left after a year. 

Top Three Amodu Achievements For Super Eagles of Nigeria:

1. He was the first manager to qualify Nigeria to the world cup 1994.

2. Amodu qualified the Super Eagles ó Nigeria to the first FIFA World Cup hosted in Africa, South Africa 2010.

3. He was thr first man to coach Nigeria to the Confederations cup in 1995.

The Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, has eulogies the late gaffer with a post on their Twitter handle. The tweet reads: "On this day 4 years ago, Late Coach Shuaibu Amodu departed this world. We miss you coachie, continue to rest in peace. Thank you for all your contributions to the development of Nigerian Football. #WeRememberAmodu"
