Aston Villa relegation struggles continues after Manchester United came to Villa park to thrash Dean Smith's side.

Manchester United transfer target, Jack Grealish was expected to take the spotlight, but he didn't as United shot stopper, David De Gea did.

The Spanish number one took a step further to write his name in the history book of Manchester United.

Following the 3-0 win, David De Gea has moved past Peter Schmeichel to become the overseas player with the most appearances for the Red Devils.

It's been gathered that he played his 399th game during the game against Aston Villa on Thursday night.

De Gea told MUTV: “Sorry to Schmeichel. It's great. That means I've been here a long time and I've been playing really, really well to the top level so I'm really, really proud. I'm happy to play for this club for that many games.

“Hopefully I have another 400 games coming! So I'm really really happy"

Recall that De Gea joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

He also shared a post on his Twitter page with the caption: "399 games! Sorry @Pschmeichel1 😉 But it’s an honour to overtake a legend like you 🔴"

Just so you know, first half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenw saw United hold on to a 2-0 advantage before Pogba added the third in the second half.
