The Saints held Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side to a 2-2 draw at the end of 90 minutes at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Southampton took the early lead when Stuart Armstrong in the 12th minute took advantage from a Paul Pogba mistake in midfield.
The Red Devils took control with two quick goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
Southampton held on an pinished Manchester United poor defending as Michael Obafemi struck in the 96th minute to share the point.
Harry Maguire has stated that he's side needed to work more on their defense when it comes to set play.
Maguire told Sky Sports: "We have improved on defending set plays.We had a terrible record at the start of the season but have been really good on them.
"They can't get in when we have four men around the goal so we'll have to look at it."
The result meant that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side are currently in fifth position with 59 points.
The former Leicester City defender also expressed his disappointment as Red Devils couldn't take advantage of Chelsea and Leicester who lost to Sheffield United and Bournemouth respectively over he weekend.
Maguire added: "We are disappointed at the moment but we dust ourselves down tomorrow."
