Manchester United announce Nemanja Matic Signs Contract Renewal

Manchester United fans have taken to the club's social media platform to air their opinion following the contract announcement of Serbian international.

Manchester United have confirmed that Nemanja Matic has signed a three years new contract extension.

The former Chelsea defensive midfielder contract was expected to expire in the summer but the new deal will keep him at the club until June 2023.

If you recall that Matic joined United in 2017 from Chelsea and has made 114 appearances for the club. The Serbian international has represented his country on 48 occasions.

Nemanja Matic said: “I am very happy that I will continue to be part of this great club.

“As a player, I still have a lot more to give and achieve in my career and to do that with Manchester United will be a huge honour."

Matić is a reportedly started his foot education at Kolubara, before joining Slovak side Košice in 2007. He moved to English club Chelsea for £1.5 million in 2009.

He added: “This is a really exciting team to be part of, we have a good balance of youth and experience within the squad and there is great comradery amongst the group.

“This is a key part of the season and we are playing well. We will continue to fight to finish the season on a high and make our amazing supporters proud.”

Matic was unable to find a spot in the team and he was loaned in 2010-2011 at Dutch club Vitesse, but he later he moved to Benfica in a swap deal with David Luiz.

Matić returned to Chelsea in January 2014, for £21 million under Jose Mourinho.

In 2017, Manchester United approached Chelsea for the signature of Matic for a fee of £40 million.

Fans took to their thread to react, and many believed the move was wrong due to the Midfielder's age. Others felt the Red Devils needed his experience.

“We have great strength in midfield and Nemanja’s attributes are a key part of that. Nemanja has been here for three seasons now and really understands the values of playing for Manchester United.

“He remains hugely ambitious and determined which will be vital as we look to achieve our aims over the coming years.”
