Both teams pressed for a winner in the second half but there was no way through.
Atalanta's unbeaten run stretches to a 16th league game but this draw leaves them five points adrift of leaders Juventus, who can win the title if they beat Sampdoria in their game in hand on Sunday.
Next up for Gasperini's side is a trip to Parma on Tuesday, a day before Milan - who missed out on the chance to usurp Roma into fifth place - head to Sampdoria.
