Arsenal fans endured their club's first half poor performance under Unai Emery which saw the club placed in the second half of the table.

But Mikel Arteta came in after Emery was sacked in December 2019, and he tried to settle the squad.

Granit Xhaka was set to leave the club after he was stripped of the captaincy. This came in November after Xhaka reacted angrily to supporters who jeered him when he was substituted during a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

The 27-year-old was also dropped from the squad for five matches under the former manager.

But Arteta came on board and the Switzerland international career took a great turn around .

While praising the manager, Xhaka said: "When Mikel arrived, I had a very good meeting with him, very good conversations.

"Mikel was the guy. He turned me around and gave me a second chance, and he showed me he trusted me and I have tried to give him everything back."

Xhaka has since former a good partnership in the middle of the field with Dani Ceballos and both have gone on ensured that Arsenal finish eight in the league.

He added: "Since Mikel came to this club a lot of things have changed. He has changed the mentality, the spirit, not only for us players, but in the group.

"Everyone knows exactly what their job is. We have a clear gameplan. He prepared us really well against a lot of good teams and yeah, at the moment, it's like we are back with happiness. Coming to training with happiness, we do amazing work."

Arsenal will face Chelsea on Saturday in the final of the FA Cup at the Wembley stadium.
