Villarreal have unveiled Dani Parejo as their latest signing from Valencia.

It's been reported that Valencia have placed their players on transfer list as they plan to raise money due to coronavirus pandemic which has affected the club finance.

"It's a difficult moment, my children are from Valencia and I've been here nine years," he said on Wednesday.

"I've felt hurt and sad by the situation for two days.

"I've always said that my intention was to retire at Valencia.

"I think I have received a lot of support, Valencia fans are the best.

"I've never been in a club like it."

He went on to explain the relationship - or lack of it - that he had maintained with the ownership group at Valencia.

"My relationship with Peter Lim hardly exists," he said.

"I only went to Singapore once when they bought the club and I was only there for 24 hours.

"I've always said things the way I see them, maybe that hurt them."

Meanwhile Villarreal who have appointed former Arsenal manager, Unai Emery signed Francis Coquelin alongwith Dani Parejo from Villarreal.

"Coquelin is a great footballer, I'm lucky to be able to continue alongside him [at Villarreal]," he added.

"I see Valencia with the same uncertainty, but I only wish them the best because they made me enjoy a lot of moments.

"I would have liked to have said goodbye to the club at Mestalla, but it couldn't be.

"I only have words of thanks to Valencia and I will always wish them the best."

When pushed on just what he believes caused the club to turn on him in such a way, Parejo was as puzzled as almost everyone else.

"We were convinced of the model and we believed in Marcelino 100 percent," he said.

"We raised that to the owners, but not only the captains, all the players.

Parejo has signed a three year contract at Villarreal plus the option of another season. He will be reunited with Unai Emery and he will get to play in the Europa League.

He was the club's second signing of the summer after getting Take Kubo on a loan deal from Real Madrid.

He continued: "We couldn't understand how change would work well and I don't know if this has been a reason, but that's the way I am.

"I speak honestly and I'm leaving with my head held high.

"I don't know if they didn't like my behaviour, my salary or the way I speak my mind.

"I have no idea who is in charge of making these decisions.

"We often found things out from the media."
