Arsenal got one ahead of Liverpool last night in the Carabao Cup. The Gunners sealed a spot in the quarter final after 5-4 win against Reds via penalties.

Jurgen Klopp had defeated Mikel Arteta side at Anfield stadium on Monday night. The Premier League Champions had to come from going a goal down from Alexander Lacazette.

Sadio Mane equalised before Andy Robertson made amends for his error to score the leading goal .

Diogo came on as a substitute to score the third as Champions continue their home run.

It was another encounter on Thursday night in the Carabao Cup. Although, Jurgen Klopp fielded some young side with only Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk the only experienced players on the pitch.

For Arsenal, it was a blend of youth and experience for Mikel Arteta side. Bernd Leno was called to action several occasions deny likes of Diogo Jota and Virgil van Dijk and Marko Grujic.


After a goalless score line after 90 minutes the game had to be decided via penalties.

Bernd Leno saved two penalties for his side to knock out the Reds.

While Willock netted the decisive spot-kick as Arsenal eventually triumphed 5-4 to progress to the quarter-finals.

Speaking after the game Leno believes he's side showed their "stuff" to knock out Liverpool.

He said:"It was a very tough game. We made a few changes, you could see our philosophy and intention to win this game," the Gunners shot-stopper told Sky Sports post-match.


"This is a chance to win another trophy, that is our target. Of course, it is good for a goalkeeper to make some penalty saves and see some laughing faces after the end. I'd prefer to win the game without penalties. The main thing is we won the game.

"It is not easy to come to the same place with a big disappointment from Monday. We analysed the game and the manager found the right words to lift us.

"The club has always given me the feeling I was the number one, I am the number one and will be the number one. My job is to prove it every week and I feel I have done that tonight."
