Arteta begs for multiple transfer window to turn Arsenal into title contenders

Mikel Arteta has been struggling to replicate the form his side picked up late last season which saw the Gunners clinch the FA Cup under his first spell as manager of the club.

Arsenal went against all odds to defeat Manchester City and Chelsea in the semi final and final in Wembley stadium last season to lift the trophy.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was in stunning form scoring twice in both games as well as in the Community Shield triumph against Liverpool in the season curtain raiser in August this year.

But the captain has been struggling with goals, he has scored just two goals so far in the campaign.

Mikel Arteta has remained confident that Aubameyang goal drought will soon come to an end.

The Spanish boss signed Gabriel Magalhães from Lille, Willian from Chelsea and Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid.

But Arteta believes the north London outfit will need more than one transfer window to turn them into title contenders.

"That [will] take a few windows at least to do that," the Spaniard responded to Sky Sports when asked how long it could take his team to complete such a turnaround. "To establish yourself to compete at the level of certain clubs in this league, which is nearly 100 points, it takes time.

"In football, time is very precious and people are very impatient. But if you don't respect the processes and you ask certain people to do certain things when the foundations are not there, it's a really dangerous thing to do.

"I know we all want to see Arsenal at the top of the league. My only intention every time is to prepare the football match. Where we get, time will tell. There's still a lot of things that are going to happen.

Arsenal will hope to pick up a positive result when they host Wolverhampton on Sunday evening.

The game will kick off a 8:15pm GMT.

He stressed that there will be some difficult times in the club but he remain optimistic that his side are ready for the challenges.

He added: "We have to prepare for difficult moments. We knew that right from the start because it's not something that has happened in the last year - it has happened many years in the past.

"To flick that into a league with 38 games; that's a big challenge. But we're all ready."
