It seems Mikel Arteta understand he has alot of work to do when it comes to the defense and he immediately moved to solve this crisis in the just ended summer window.
The Gunners move to complete 25m pounds deal for Brazil international Gabriel Magalhães from Lille. The 22 years has settled into the club after he was handed the jersey number 6.
Gabriel has formed good partnership at the back along with David Luiz. He is a ball playing defender and very good in area battles.
Former Arsenal star Kevin Campbell believes the club have gotten a centre-back who wants to defend.
According to the former striker, Gabriel is worth more than the transfer fee Arsenal paid to Lille.
“Finally Arsenal have got a centre-back who wants to defend, who likes to defend,” Campbell told Football Insider.
“You see Gabriel back there and he is making the players around him better. That is the sign of a top-class player.
“He is powerful, quick, strong, good on the ball and good in the air – Arsenal stole him for that price!"
Gabriel Magalhães joined on a five years deal from Lille. He put pen to paper 9n a deal which will see him remain at Arsenal until 2025. The fans will be hoping he can keep fit as they continue to seal a spot in top four.
Campbell added that Arsenal have got a good player who has age in his side to improve.
He said: “That is an absolute steal because he is only going to get better. A very strong player that is only in his 20s. A signing that has hit the ground running straight away.”
