It appears that Arsenal fans might not see William Saliba feature for the Gunners this season. The youngster has been one of the prospectus in the team as Mikel Arteta plan to develop the youth.

Mikel Arteta has been given the north London side a new look since he took over and seems Arsenal have been carving out a new Identity under their new boss.

If you recall that Saliba completed the  £25 million ($32m) from Saint-Etienne in 2019 before returning to his former club and spending the 2019-20 campaign on loan in France.

He finally had the opportunity to join the team this season and was handed the jersey number 4.

Although, the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille has seen Saliba fall down the pecking order with likes of Rob Holding, Mustafi and David Luiz ahead of the French international.

While likes of Callum Chambers and Pablo Mari are still injured.

But Arteta admits the French youngster might have to leave the team on loan to secure more game time under his belt.

Arteta said: “I am fed up with the situation because as you could see we tried to find a way in the last few days [of the transfer window] to give him some football.

"I explained that he needed that transition year when we decided to buy him and send him on loan to Saint-Etienne, for many reasons that didn’t happen, he didn’t have that transition year and he needs to go through that.

“At the moment, with the amount of central defenders that we have in the team we had to leave him out of the squad which is painful because we have some injuries and we could have used him, but it’s part of this profession.”

Weeks ago, it was reported that William Saliba wasn't included in Arsenal Europa League Squad of the season. But he made Arteta's 25 man Premier League squad.

When asked whether a loan move in January was a possibility, the Arsenal boss added: “Yes.We certainly tried in the last few days of the transfer window to find the right club and we had it, but at the end of the day we could not make it.

“We will review his situation in the next few weeks, sit down with him as well and see what is the best thing to do. But it will depend on him and other players’ situations as well.”
