United were two goals down in the first half but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made swift changes as he withdrew Mason Greenwood and brought on experienced Edinson Cavani.
The Uruguay international is yet to start a game for Manchester United in the Premier League since he joined as a free agent in the summer window.
Cavani repaid the manager's faith as he provided the assist for Bruno Fernandes to cut down the deficit to one.
Few minutes later, Fernandes turned provider for Cavani to draw level.
In the 90th minutes of the come back was completed with Edinson Cavani scoring his brace.
After the game, the Norway boss praised the veteran striker.
"Great impact of course. He is a number nine who wants to be in between the posts, he is always on the move, he wants to get in front of you and I am very pleased with him," he told BBC Sport . "On the training pitch, in the dressing room and during meal times, how meticulous he is. He knows what he wants to eat, how much he wants to recover - everything!"
Cavani has now scored three goals for Manchester United in the Premier League so far, haven scored one in 3-1 win against Everton weeks ago.
He also came off the bench to score the third goal after he received a pass from Fernandes.
Solskjaer added: "It was top movement and his timing is fantastic. His hunger to get on the end of things is the key for a centre-forward. Sometimes it hurts and sometimes it doesn't but to score you have to be in there."
