The hosts started brightly and largely controlled the first half as Germain and Sanson both missed openings to take the lead. However, Porto managed to open the scoring against the run of play when Sanusi smuggled in a corner and the hosts shrunk under the pressure.
Porto handed them a lifeline in the second half when Grujic received a silly red card, but Marseille quickly handed back the ascendancy when Balerdi brought down Marega to earn himself a red card - and provide Porto with a penalty. Oliveira stepped up to conver the spot-kick and the away side held on for a crucial victory
The result means that Porto move six points clear of Olympiacos in the race for the second qualification spot.
