On Wednesday night, the draw result continued at the St. James Park after Steve Bruce side played a goalless draw against the Premier League champions.
Jurgen Klopp remain top of the league with three points ahead of second placed Manchester United.
After the game last night, Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Joel Matip is set to miss three weeks of action.
It's been gathered that the Cameroon international has suffered a groin injury.
Recall that Matip went down with the injury in the club's 1-1 draw against West Brom on Sunday and he was replaced by Neco Phillips.
Neco Philips played in centre back with Fabinho at the defense for Liverpool against Newcastle last night.
On Matip injury: "The normal situation with this kind of injury is around about three weeks," Klopp said.
Meanwhile, Liverpool return to action on Monday when they face Southampton at St Mary's.
Just so you know, Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez remain on the treatment table with long-term injuries.
