Mikel Arteta future as manager of Arsenal has been in the spotlight for weeks following the club's recent poor run of games.

Arsenal were knocked out of the Carabao Cup last night after they lost 4-1 to Manchester City in the quartet final.

It's understood that the Gunners are struggling to score goals and they have also been conceding goals at the back.

The last victory in the league for Arsenal came in October when they defeated Manchester United at Old Trafford stadium.

Arsenal are currently 15th in the league standing and arw closer to the relegation zone.

After last night game, Mikel Arteta said that his side are in "big trouble" if they don't turn things around quickly.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, he said: "It’s a hard one to take considering how the game went. This level of opponent, when you give the goals away it makes the game impossible. A lot of strange things are happening in every game and that makes things really difficult.

"We have to turn it around – there is no question. If we don't we're in big trouble. This is the moment that's going to decide our season."

Just so you know, the north London side currently have  14 points from 14 games so far.

According to reports gathered, it's Arsenal  worst record at this stage of a league season since the 1974-75 campaign.

Arteta added: "On the basis of what we have shown tonight against difficult opponents, I have fighters in my team. Yes, I have fighters."

Arsenal set to face Chelsea on boxing day. It's the second London derby this season for Arsenal.

If you recall that the Gunners lost the first derby against Tottenham back in November.
